PhD FELLOWSHIPS IN GERMANY FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH

PhD Fellowships are awarded to outstanding young scientists (max. age: 27 years) who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project of approximately 3 years in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory. For further details please refer to “Who can apply?”. The peer-review-based selection process is highly competitive. Applicants should therefore be outstanding in all three selection criteria.

Purpose
To promote basic research in biomedicine by providing the best young, up-and-coming scientists with comprehensive support during their PhD phase.

The fellowship comprises a competitive monthly stipend which is initially granted for 2 years and which can be extended for up to another 12 months. Participation at international scientific conferences is also supported. In addition, fellowship holders are offered personal support, seminars to discuss their projects, communication training and alumni meetings, and thus can become part of a worldwide network. Timing and selection
Deadlines of application: 1 February, 1 June, 1 October of each year. Pre-selection takes place about 4 weeks after the respective deadline and the final selection round approximately 5 months after the respective deadline. Read more about the selection process and its criteria.

Please note that a Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds PhD fellowship application consists of two parts: (1) the online application, sent by internet and (2) a paper version, sent by surface mail.

Both must be submitted by one of the respective deadlines of each year (date as per postmark for the paper version): 1 February, 1 June, 1 October

Procedure for Online Applications

1. Registration

Once you have registered, you will automatically receive an e-mail containing an internet link for your online application account. This will be sent to the e-mail address you provided.

2. Activation of your Application Account

Your account can be activated by clicking on the internet link in the e-mail. Once you have given user name and password, you can begin with the application. Required data can be filled in and saved chapter by chapter. You can edit all your entries before submitting the completed online application. Please note, however, that we do not receive your online application unless you click on the “Submit application” button.
