Job Description:

We seek highly motivated, talented and creative PhD/M.Sc.
A candidates to join the Biomedical Microsystems Laboratory of Dr Benoit Gosselin at Université Laval, Quebec City.

Our research interests focus on designing novel high-performance, analog/digital/mixed-mode biomedical VLSI circuits to supply the next generation of assistive technologies.

Among other activities, our team is working toward the implementation of direct neural interfacing microsystems and ultralow-power wireless sensor interfaces.

We are looking for interdisciplinary students with strong background in analog/digital electronics with interests in biology and biomedical.

Successful applicants will be involved in

1) the design, simulation and layout generation of VLSI mixed-mode circuits within the latest nano-CMOS technology available through CMC Microystems, Canada

2) the assembly and packaging

3) bench top testing

4) validation of microsystems with collaborating medical institutions.

Some research projects will be developed in collaboration with the Georgia Tech Bionics Lab (Atlanta, USA) and Polystim Neurotechnologies Lab in Polytechnique (Montreal, Canada).

The ability to work independently and good communication skills are important attributes. Students can look forward for a research-stimulating environment and access to the state-of-the-art equipment in microsystems design, assembly and packaging.

Moreover, full financial support is available.

Our research focus is on:

– Wireless brain computer interfaces technology and sensory processing circuits;

– Sensor interfacing circuits and biomedical instrumentation (low-noise sensing/conditioning and low-power data converters);

– Ultralow-power CMOS analog/digital/mixed-mode VLSI circuits;

– CMOS RF circuit design;

– Implantable medical microsystems/wearable electronics and assistive technologies;

– Bio-inspired/adaptive circuits and systems design;

– Algorithms for the efficient processing of bio-physical signals.

Université Laval is the oldest centre of education in Canada and is ranked among the top ten Canadian universities in terms of research funding.

Its main campus is located in Quebec City, on the outskirts of the historic city. Quebec was named UNESCO World Heritage’s city in recognition of its universal value and exceptional appeal.
