The healthcare division of Siemens Ltd installed a Magnetom Aera 1.5-Tesla (T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner at Scans World, Chennai, on 23 December 2010. A new-generation scanner with a combination of Tim 4G and DOT (day optimizing throughput) engine, the device provides personalised patient care and improves daily productivity by 30% across the entire MRI workflow, according to the company.

The Magnetom Aera 1.5-T MRI system with Siemens’ fourth-generation Tim technology, called Tim 4G, features innovative radiofrequency (RF) capability as well as a new ultra-high-density coil architecture. This system packs more coil elements into a smaller space—204 coil elements that use up to 48 channels—than the previous system, enabling high-resolution image quality during patient scanning. In addition, Tim 4G also provides good signal-to-noise ratio and high processing speed. Moreover, without coil or patient repositioning, Tim 4G provides full coverage of the patient’s body including the smallest details.
