APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications will be accepted until November 15, 2010.
Want to spend the summer working with one of Canada’s best researchers, learn about the latest innovation in industry, develop new skills, and have the experience of a lifetime?
The MITACS Globalink program brings the world’s best talent to work on research with leading Canadian academics, exposes students to innovation occurring both within our research universities and our industrial communities, and provides students with supplemental novel training to help communicate science effectively, manage projects and develop teamwork skills. It is an incredible experience.
This year the Globalink Program is bigger and better than ever. We have increased the number of institutions from which students are able to participate, have extended the program to more provinces in Canada, and are seeking to have students from other countries than India also participate. We are also diversifying the industrial engagement experience in exciting new ways. You will need the following documents to apply:
- Current Full CV
- Full Transcript (electronic version fine but it must show academic progress for all semesters)
- Two (2) Letters of reference – signed and scanned (Click here for instructions)
- You will also need to submit a rationale for EACH research project you apply to (or a single rationale for the student choice option)
There are 2 types of Globalink Internships:
Student Choice Projects:
Looking to do research in an area of your passion? Use this category of internship. For this category of internship you will need to submit the following documents in addition to your cv, transcript and reference letters. These include: (1) research project area description in detail – what specific research project you would like to be able to tackle and what types of skills and background you have that will enable to you to contribute to research in this area; (2) a list of up to 4 potential faculty that you feel would be good matches for your interests and describing in no more than half a page why you selected them. No more than 2 faculty members from any one university can be listed. The Scientific Review Committee will assess your suggestions, develop suggestions of their own, and work with universities to identify a final rank order of recommended supervisors that they we will then attempt to secure. This may be an iterative process between MITACS, yourself and leading faculty.
Faculty Research Projects:
Leading Canadian researchers have submitted detailed research project descriptions and student skill requirements. From these projects, you can choose a project that best fits your interests, goals, background and skill-set. These projects have been identified in one of a core set of thematic areas that coincide with Canadian and provincial research and innovation priority areas. As part of the application process, you can now identify the top 4 research projects (no more than 2 from any one university) that you would like to undertake in Summer 2011. If selected to participate, we will do our best to place you in one of those 4. If we select you but your top 4 ultimately aren’t available for you, we will then convert you to a student choice internship where we will find a faculty member to supervise your project of interest.
Student Elgibility Requirements:
To be eligible to apply for a Globalink internship you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a 3rd year undergraduate student in a 4 year degree program OR be a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student in a 5 year integrated masters program
