Eligibility criteria
Biological Sciences : Masters degree in Biological/ Chemical/ Physical/ Mathematical/ Allied Medical Sciences or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Medicine. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of August 2011: CSIR-UGC-JRF/ DBT-JRF/ GATE/ ICMR JRF. The second requirement (qualifying in a national test) is waived for applicants interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution. | Mathematical Sciences: Master’s degree in Mathematics / Statistics / in a relevant area of science with desired CPI of 6.5 (or 60% of marks) and a valid CSIR-UGC-JRF/ NBHM/GATE as on 1st August 2011. Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with desired CPI of 6.5 (or 60% of marks) with valid GATE score as on 1st August 2010. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with a desired CPI of 7.0 (or 65% of marks), an appearance in the Indian National Math Olympiad (INMO) in class XI or XII, and a valid CSIR-UGC-JRF/ NBHM/ GATE as on 1st August 2011. |
Physical Sciences : Masters degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering or Technology in areas closely related to the interests of the physics faculty at IISER TVM. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of August 2011: GATE/ CSIR-UGC-JRF. Applicants with M. Tech need a GATE score valid as of 1st August 2010. Mere fulfilling the eligibility criterion does not entitle a candidate to be called for the interview. | Chemical Sciences: Masters degree in Chemistry with 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Selection procedure: Shortlisted candidates will be called for both the written test and interview. The final selection will be solely based on the performance in the written test and interview. Indian Institute Of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM) is dedicated to scientific research and science education of international standards.Established in 2008 by the Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), based on the recommendation of Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, IISER-TVM is an autonomous institution awarding five year integrated MS degree in addition to Ph.D degrees in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and inter-disciplinary areas. The emphasis will be to develop a spirit of research cutting across disciplines from the beginning itself. IISER-TVM is temporarily located in the Computer Science building of the College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET). The permanent campus of 200 acres will be built at Vithura, at the foothills of the Ponmudi hills of the western ghats, about 40Kms from Thiruvananthapuram.
