About Tata Jagriti Yatra

Tata Jagriti Yatra is an annual train journey that that takes hundreds of India’s highly motivated youth (with some participation of international students) between the ages of 20-25 and experienced professionals with age above 25, on a eighteen day national odyssey, introducing them to unsung heroes of India. The aim is to awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship – both social and economic – within India’s youth by exposing them to individuals and institutions that are developing unique solutions to India’s challenges. Through this national event we have begun to inspire the youth of India to lead and develop institutions both nationally and within their communities.

Professor – Neural Engineering, Regeneration and Rehabilitation

The Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering and The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invite applications for a tenure-track position (all ranks) in the area of Electrical or Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2011.

The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead an independent research program of international calibre. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach at the undergraduate and post-graduate level in biomedical, electrical and computer engineering. Collegial interaction will be an important element in success. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Toronto has one of the most concentrated Biomedical Research communities in the world with >5,000 principal investigators affiliated with the University and its hospital network and an $800M in annual research investment. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to collaborative research initiatives with IBBME?s affiliated neural research centres at the Toronto Western Hospital and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, where Internationally recognized research in the areas of deep brain stimulation, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, dystonia, spinal cord injury, cognitive disorders, neural regeneration and other neural related challenges are pursued. HOW IT WORKS?

A nationwide ‘Call for Proposals’ in the area of life sciences that has commercialization potential will be announced through various communication media.

Students have to form a team comprising of 5 team members, identify a team leader and a faculty member/mentor as a Guide. The Guide is optional.

Each team will submit a Concept Note based on which a Panel will screen the applications and shortlist 20 teams. These 20 teams will attend a fully paid for high quality Entrepreneurship Workshop that will familiarize them on matters related to starting a business venture like Business Plans, IP & Patenting Strategies, Raising Finance, Business Strategies and HR Practices. At the end of the Workshop, each team will develop a business plan based on their Concept and learning from the Workshop and make a ten minute power point presentation to the Jury. The Jury will evaluate and critique each of the business plans and identify 3 winning teams.

The 3 Winning teams will be awarded Prize money of Rs.500, 000/-, Rs. 300,000/- and Rs. 200,000/ respectively.

The winning teams will be also be given an opportunity to attend and present their business plans at ABLE’s Annual BioInvest Conference. BioInvest is ABLE’s flagship conference that brings together on one platform Life Science Companies, Institutional Investors and Investment Bankers to explore opportunities for investment.
