Biomechanics is an emerging interdisciplinary field with contribution from professionals of various engineering disciplines and other fields like medicine, industry, physiotherapy, sports etc. In biomechanics, the structural and functional behaviour of biological systems are studied using the principles of mechanics and engineering.
Developing methods, procedures and devices to improve impaired movements of patients with musculoskeletal diseases/disorders is an important area of R&D in biomechanics. An understanding of the biomechanics of the system and expertise of engineering, medical and industrial fields are essential to develop safe, affordable and accessible solutions for such problems. However such an interdisciplinary approach, though quite needed, is still at its initial stage in an Indian context.

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is an internationally active field and has seen continued growth fostered by the need to support management, clinical, and policy decisions. It has also been advanced by the evolution of methods in the social and applied sciences, including clinical epidemiology and health economics as it acts as a bridge between the world of research and the decision-making process.
3rd International Fellowship on Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is being organized by Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre in collaboration with World Health Organisation (WHO), Country Office for India, and National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), New Delhi, from 21st October, 2013 to 26th October, 2013.
A novel program intended for fresh B tech biomedical engineers to get familiarized with the health care technology from a hospital perspective.
The medical field is becoming more and more dependent on technology for the better health care delivery.
Here there is unmet requirement for skilled technical person with updated knowledge in medical equipment and technologies. At present the courses such as B tech biomedical engineering doesn’t give sufficient knowledge and practical exposure to the latest medical technologies and skills, guidelines required for health care technology management. In this circumstance, department of biomedical engineering, Cochin medical college attempt to fill this gap by conducting the course for freshers ( 2013 pass out ) biomedical engineers.
We are very happy to release the notification for 1st National Level Biomedical Engineering Training which is scheduled from July 8-14th 2013 hosted by TriMedx and Narayana Health with Technical Support from PGIMER (Chandigarh ) , SCTIMST ( Trivandrum ) , HTIC-IIT( Madras ) , Medica Synergie ( Kolkata ) , Era’s Medical College and Hospital (Lucknow ).
