RESEARCH FELLOW POSITION IN NEUROSCIENCE,UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK,UK

Department of Computer Science and Centre for Complexity Science, University of Warwick, UK

Fixed Term Contract for 3 years with start date 1 February 2011 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

You will work on a project funded by the BBSRC that aims to investigate the role of calcium dynamics in neuronal computation underlying important brain functions. The project will be led by Dr Y Timofeeva and run in collaboration with experimentalists at Oxford and Cambridge.

DO YOUR PhD IN NEUROSCIENCE FROM NETHERLANDS….POSITIONS VACCANT

It is still largely a mystery how collections of neurons give rise to conscious perception. By now we have some idea of the brain systems involved, but the neural mechanisms and ensemble interactions correlated to perception remain unresolved. In the current project we will investigate how neural ensembles in multiple brain areas respond to visual images, and which types of transmitter receptor in these areas are important for perceptual discrimination. Specifically, we will focus on the interaction between sensory and memory systems in this project. To this end, we will apply multi-area ensemble recordings combined with neuroopharmacology in freely behaving rodents. At a later stage of the project, results will be used to design new computational models of perceptual discrimination. The project will be conducted as part of the UvA’s research priority program Brain and Cognition, in a multidisciplinary collaboration combining psychological, neurobiological, neuroimaging and image-processing research

RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP IN BIO-NEMS

Research Assitantship for Ph.D. candidates, The Pennsylvania State University, USA
Position: Research Assitantship for Ph.D. candidates
Organization: The Pennsylvania State University
Location: USA
Deadline: 04-01-11

Description:

The Penn State BioNEMS Group is inviting the most motivated, talented students to join us in using micro/nano technology to find innovative solutions to solve the world’s challenging problems. The BioNEMS group conducts research at the interface of engineering, biology, physics, and materials. Our research focuses on multi-physics of micro/nano systems. Currently, we have two research directions:

1) multi-physics of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip systems.

2) multi-physics of active nanostructures. Our team consists of exceptional students and researchers with passion to excel.

Since BioNEMS was founded in 2005, we have made the following remarkable achievements:

1) We have published 53 journal articles and 43 conference papers and filed nine US patent applications in five years.

2) Eleven of our journal articles have been featured as cover images at the journals Advanced Materials, Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Physical Chemistry C, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, and Lab on a Chip.

3) Our results have been reported as news stories at the journals Nature, Nature Photonics, and Nature Materials.

4) The technologies invented by us have been highlighted at National Science Foundation of USA and more than 200 public media such as US News and World Report, Yahoo News, Science Daily, Wired Science, Live Science, Medical News Today, Bio-Medicine, Highlights in Chemical Technology, R&D Magazine, Popular Mechanics, Nanotechnology Now, Materials Today, Physics World, photonics.com, and optics.org.

5) Our graduate students have been selected to receive more than 40 awards (from university level to international level) for their research accomplishments.

HOW TO APPLY

The Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships 2011

The Programme

Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, is a graduate and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College.  He is widely acknowledged as the architect of the economic reforms that have helped propel India onto the World Stage.  In honour of Dr Singh St John’s College, the University of Cambridge launched the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships in Delhi in 2007.  These awards will enable academically outstanding Indian students to come to St. John’s College, University of Cambridge to study for doctoral degrees in subjects like Science & Technology, Economics and Social Sciences.
