WORKSHOP ON NANOMATERIALS FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

Nanomaterials for Sustainable Energy

EU-India Workshop (1-2 November 2010)
EICOON School ( 3 – 4 November 2010)
India Habitat Centre, New Delhi

Research in nanomaterials is expected to provide critical contributions to the advancement in energy technologies and to address the important issue of sustainability. Progress in these cross-disciplinary areas can be best achieved through coordinated and cooperative actions. This event will provide a unique opportunity for those involved in research (including funding and policy) in Europe and India to identify synergies and mutual needs to push forward progress and provide benefits for both regions.

Job Oriented Biotechnology-Industrial Training

Job Oriented Biotechnology-Industrial Training

Institute of Biotechnology (IBT) [a division of Usha Biotech Limited (ISO 9001 2008 Certified Company)] is providing a multi disciplinary industrial training in biotechnology. The training will bridge the gap between academics and industry by providing students with hands on training in various aspects of research. During the six months training students will learn theory and practical’s in Molecular Cloning, Protein Purification, Mammalian Cell Culture, Fermentation Technology, QA&QC and Software Tools Used In Biotech Industry. The training will not only help life science professionals to gain hands on training but also help industry to absorb multi talented young scientists with sound scientific knowledge.

NEW TYPE OF ELECTRODES FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Flexible, organic, moist electrodes have been designed by chemists in Japan. Composed of conductive polymers patterned onto slices of hydrogel, the biocompatible electrodes can function under wet conditions for up to a month – making them very useful in medical research.

Producing cheap and effective electrodes that work inside biological systems is crucial for designing implantable medical devices or monitoring the activity of cells in the body. Conductive polymers, such as PEDOT – poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) – have great potential for this application, but until now have been difficult to mount onto suitable substrates.
